Holy Pain

A Poem By Damaris Ann // 12/11/2018

Fog surrounds me
It’s so thick that I
Choke
I
Trip
I get tired of being unable to see
The path winds on before me
I squint, trying to peer through the haze
My crutches drag the dirt
Beside me
While I walk alone
I’m searching for
Peace
I’m searching for
Ease
But I’ve been walking for miles
Treading rough ground
Breaking my bones
And
Breaking my heart
And
Breaking my pride
While I
Realize that rest may never come
Never or
Not for a long, long while
But I press on
Stopping occasionally to breathe
But even breath is
Painful
So I bear and
Forbear
And put one foot in front of
The other
Tracing the steps of those who
Were baptized with holy pain and
Those who walked before
Me
I wonder if they
Were ever as discouraged as I
Found myself to be
So often
In utter despair over
The restlessness of my journey
Until I remember
The trail of tears one Other walked
Before I knew pain He did
He knew it gracefully
And so I
Have purposed
To know pain
To embrace it
To welcome it with open arms
Knowing that pain is
Growth and
Pain is
Sanctifying
Pain
Sets me apart
And so on this journey
I will bear it
Whatever comes my way
Aware
That there is grace
For
Each
Pain-
Filled
Day

Damaris, this is beautiful!

Damaris, this is beautiful! And you said it so well! I think this part was especially good:
"Until I remember
The trail of tears one Other walked
Before I knew pain He did
He knew it gracefully
And so I
Have purposed
To know pain
To embrace it
To welcome it with open arms
Knowing that pain is
Growth and
Pain is
Sanctifying"

This is something we all need to be reminded of! Thank you for sharing!

C.H. Spurgeon - "God’s mercy is so great that you may sooner drain the sea of its water, or deprive the sun of its light, or make space too narrow, than diminish the great mercy of God. "

Thank you, Joy. :)

I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.

golly Damaris

ugh I hate it when there’s a poem so good so you kinda just sit there like, I don’t even know what to say in response to this, it’s just too good and too meaningful and words are too shallow to express the feeling that I get from reading it

THAT’S HOW THIS MADE ME FEEL DAMARIS

but seriously it’s beautiful <333 I absolutely... oh man, it’s just so good, thank you for writing <3 you are AWESOME! <3
