I’ve Had the Longest Day

A Poem By Damaris Ann // 2/22/2019

Crying in the shower at the end
Of the day
Over old heartbreak
Or perhaps
Current pain
But when the water calms
And my tears are washed away
I slip into my bed
Like my fears slipped down the drain
But not every fear or burden
Feels like it’s gone away
For I am only human
And I’ve had the longest day
So I beg for mercy
And pray for thankfulness
Hoping that each part of me
Will be fully cleansed
So bless the Lord, oh
My soul
And forget not His
What?
His benefits
Bless Him, oh my soul
And let my tears forever flow
In thankfulness, falling
Down
In unworthiness
At His
Throne

Damaris, I love your wording.

Damaris, I love your wording. It describes many of my nights so accurately. And oh, those lines:

So I beg for mercy
And pray for thankfulness
Hoping that each part of me
Will be fully cleansed

Yes! - that is my prayer! How many times have I "begged for mercy" and "prayed for thankfulness"? Thank you so much for sharing! :)

“The gospel alone is the power of God unto salvation.
Therefore, suffer, yes. Be misunderstood, yes. Be shamed, yes. But do not be ashamed. For the joy set before you, take up your cross, follow Jesus, be shamed and despise the shame!" -- John Piper

Thank you, Libby. I’m glad

Thank you, Libby. I’m glad you can relate. :) it’s always sweet to be able to give those long days and difficult nights to God.

I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.
