New Masterpiece

A Poem By Damaris Ann // 1/27/2019

I once thought I had everything in my hands
Looking at the perfectly carved face in front of me
I thought to myself
I made this
And it is lovely
And then those perfectly chiseled features
Slipped through my hands
Shattering around my feet
While I sunk to my knees
I picked up the shards
Hands shaking
Fingers bleeding
I held the tiny pieces close
Not willing to let them go
I swept them into a tiny box
Lined with silk and down-feathers
Plucked from my own soul
I sealed the lid
Closing away pieces of my heart with it
Holding it like a casket
Yet unwilling to bury it
But then over the following years
Dust settled over my box
I danced around it, waltzing
With life
And as I waltzed
The dirt around my toes shifted
Until my box could no longer be seen
Now there is nothing left of my box
Nothing but a small mound
A monument
Standing quietly
It reminds me of what I once had
Something that I made
But not me alone
It was customized by heaven
Fitted to my hands
And then blown away when it’s time was done
So when I look at that little mound
I smile
I remember what once was mine
But instead of standing for hours
Wishing to hold it once more
I blow a kiss and waltz away
Ready to begin a new masterpiece

So beautiful Damaris! It's

So beautiful Damaris! It's such a good picture of what our lives look like when we try to hold onto the past. God wants us to grow, and to do that we have to look forward into what lies ahead and not behind us. Thank you for sharing this!
