Cobwebs

A Poem By Erin // 3/19/2013

1. When Tomorrow Ends
I understand, I think
Why it seems like you can’t see
I guess I’m just wondering
When the goodbyes stop
And when tomorrow ends

2. Just a Little Closer
I see you closing the space between us
Your smile close to my own
You’re close enough that I could
Run my hand along your lips
I sense mowed grass
And a feeling of apprehension
What does this truly mean?

3. Cobwebs
Everyone’s entitled to their secrets, I suppose
I guess that this just wasn’t quite what I expected
It doesn’t really matter, I should say
These things don’t pertain to me
I’m just a stupid girl, dreaming about things that I shouldn’t.

4. Pollen
It’s strange that after all we’ve been through
You still stand by me, our hands side by side
We drift through the air like pollen
Too close to touch

5. Too Many Secrets
It’s just so frustrating, feeling this way
Bearing this secret that I know I can’t tell
This silence is suffocating, I’m begging to breathe
Why is it that I’m incapable of letting go?

6. Overload
Are breathing and thinking the same?
Because I don’t know which one I want to do
This is getting too difficult
My head is too full, I’m about to explode.

7. Miscommunication
Your favorite song is blasting through my stereo
I think of how you’d smile
Everything’s supposed to be over
But I guess that’s just another lie I tell myself
I’m thinking back to the insignificant glances
The lightly brushing hands
Misinterpreted by my stupid girlish heart
I don’t know what do.

8. The Tribal Song
The water is cool and we put our hands in it, we let the clay bury us, the clay buries our hands and we let it. With open mouths we let the water come in, our smiles up at the Great Spirit Chief and we thank him for all he has done. The children are dancing, their screams lighting up the sky and we are all very filled with joy. The crocodiles rejoice with us, greeting us with their scales and their mysterious eyes. They are happy too, because once again they can soak up the river, so we know that they will not eat us, they will let us be for today. Together we sing, the birds with us, too, we let our hearts go to the Great Spirit Chief and we thank him for letting us live. Yes, we dance in the river and the clay washes over us and we let it.

9. Refreshed
Sleepy eyes and sighing lips
Breaths are dancing in the morning air
The weight hanging in my heart
Has dissipated, for now, at least
I guess yesterday was just too long

10. Moonlight and Cigarettes
How can this still taste so pure
After I let you kiss me after dark
The moonlit shadows danced across your face
I let your cigarette smoke creep into my lungs
I liked the taste of the gum you used to cover up the scent
I had an inclination for bad boys, I suppose
The ones that the rules said I couldn’t have
I thought it felt right, with our hands and lips intertwined
I certainly know better now.

11. Right Here
I can always tell when you’re angry
Not many people can tell
Your whole body tenses up and your nose twitches
I see your real smile and your fake smile
The one where you try to please people
Then the one where your eyes crinkle up and sparkle
You’re always saying that you wish someone knew the real you
I’m standing right here.

12. Shifting Opinions
Newer distractions, shifting opinions
I feel so unsure about all these new secrets
About people I’ve known for such a long time
I’m losing respect for those who should be my superiors
How can I balance this madness?

13. Burritos
You said I was the best
I’ll admit, I might have panicked
I kind of ran away
Which is kind of awkward
But at least talking to you made me happy for once
Instead of breaking my heart

14. Relief
You’re starting to be replaced
I have to say that I’m grateful
That gut wrenching feeling was getting exhausting
I’m just about ready to keep moving on

15. The Butterflies Are Back Again
Panicking, I guess it’s normal
I felt a bit ridiculous
It’s ok, because I know that you’re used to it
My ridiculousness, I mean
You probably think I’m just quirky
Which is true
But you might not realize that I’m usually more normal than this
I think.

16. I Like You a Tiny Bit
So, I’m a little worried about giving you an aneurysm
I know that I tend to make things complicated
But I’m not intentionally trying to kill you
I actually quite like you
A lot.

Oh Wow...

I must say, that was definitely an interesting group of poems! I really, really liked it, and the rythm was great...my favourite would have to be 3!

You've been busy! :)

My favorites were 12, 15, and 16.
I can totally relate to 'Shifting Opinions'. Over the last 4-ish years, I've learned things about people, and maybe just seen the other sides of people, and it breaks my heart, that these people I looked up to, these people I trusted, are not who I thought they were. But then, they still are, to some degree. It's so confusing!

I loved 15 and 16. Especially 15. Why can't I ever act normal around boys who I kinda-sorta-maybe like? I want to be my best, not my weirdest. But I'm always far more strange than I typically am. *sigh*

Anywho, I loved these! Thank you so much for sharing!

I'd originally written a long-ish comment the day you posted this, but it didn't go through. :P So....I will try and remember what I said! LOL!

You’re always saying that you wish someone knew the real you
I’m standing right here.

^ I loooooooooooooooove that line so much. It's perfect! And it perfectly describes that feeling of why don't you see. :)

I really liked Shifting Opinions, too. That was great. And the last one was so cute! Oh, and relief. This line: I’m just about ready to keep moving on

That line alone says so much versus I'm ready to move on--I'm just about ready to keep moving on. :) It tells a small story. I love it! And it reminded me of this song by A Fine Frenzy--Near to You. Have you heard it before?

Anyway, these were my favorite set of poems you've posted in a while. The others were great, too--but something about these made me love them a bit more. Wonderful work, Erin!

everything was better when/you would call and I'd be like/yeah babe, no way

Thank you so much!!!! I

Thank you so much!!!! I haven't heard Near to You, but there's this song that I really like by her called Almost Lover (or something like that) that I get a lot of inspiration from. I'll have to search for the other one! Anyway, thanks for your comment :)

AWESOME!

You know I love your poetry. So I won't go on and on about how awesome it is. I'll merely state a few of my favorites:

5, 6, 9, 11, 12 and 14! All my favorites! I feel like I missed over another which I SUPER liked... but I can't remember.
Very, very good :D
