Platonic/Don't Leave Me

A Poem By Erin // 11/9/2014

I. Just a Girl
Get back over here
Don’t talk to her, talk to me
I don’t like the haughty way
She held her head when she
Told you to come closer
I don’t like her
Heavy red lipstick
I don’t like the way
She reached out and
Hugged your shoulders
I don’t like
Her
Flirting with you.

II. Older
“Don’t let an age gap deter you all the time,”
he told me
A small part of me wondered (hoped)
That he might have been trying
To tell me something
"Well, now that I’m 18 my options have opened up,”
I said, as though I weren’t hinting
“Exactly,” and I wished he would just keep talking
Ask the question I want to hear so badly
“Let’s go on a date, just you and me,” I told him in my mind
I could phrase it like a joke so that things didn’t
Have to get awkward
Because God knows I can’t
Lose someone else.

III. Platonic I
I liked the scruff of his beard
Brushing my cheek
His hand on my waist
The way he looks at me sometimes
Gets me thinking we're something
Other than platonic
But we laugh and joke around
And we're just friends again
But then he'll grab my hand
And tell me when I look pretty
Send me spinning to a place
That I don't want to be.

IV. Don't Leave Me
Don’t know how I feel about
This
I want to cry but at the same time
I don’t
I wish I would have known
Sooner
I wouldn’t have been so
Casual
I wouldn’t have let
This
Slip through my fingers
Like grains of sand
“We’ll have plenty of time
to hang out between now and
then.”
But will we?
Six months isn’t long
I had so many
Expectations
I would call you up on my college breaks
When I was back in my hometown
It would be just like my old
High school days
I’m worried about
This
I’m worried about
You.

V. Platonic II
What if I never see you again?
Someone who’s been such a good
Friend to me
I need you to promise me that
You’ll keep in touch
I don’t know if you’ll be able to
But try, please
For me.

VI. In Private
This is me trying to be ok
Sitting alone, staying away
Wishing I didn’t know so much
I can never let myself be out of touch
Let me in, no, keep me out
I want to know what all this is about
As long as you don’t let this moment
Be the last time.

Oh. My. Goodness!!!!! These

Oh. My. Goodness!!!!! These are incredible!!!!!!!!!!! I'll try to find words to express how absolutely wonderful these are but it'll be hard!
Each one was personal, I could tell, and each one had a story that just sung out so beautifully! I loved your wording, rythme! I loved what you portrayed an the feelings within each one!
Even though they were your own and very personally, they were also very relatable! I absolutely adored Platonic I!!! And Older was probably my all time favorite!
This set was fabulous! Hope everything works out in your world ;)
These are great!!!
Write on!
