Rut

A Poem By Erin // 11/24/2015

the sky is bending,
warping, because
you left
and something in that
is wrong.

Pollution is tinting
the tops of houses
and bottoms of clouds
olive green and
starburst pink.

I think maybe
there is beauty
in the destruction,
like the rut
your tire dug
in the grass
of my front lawn.

sometimes I glance
out the window
and think of fixing it,
the damage.

But I don’t,
because that would erase
the last part of you
I can see.

I looooooooove it. You have

I looooooooove it. You have gotten SO good at writing concise, poignant poetry with clean imagery. How do you do it?!? There is nothing unnecessary, nothing cluttered--everything serves a purpose.

This one was particularly great. There's a continuity in this that's lovely; it's like being inside your thoughts. Each stanza tails off and the other one picks up where it left off in some sort of way. It's masterful!

"But I don’t,
because that would erase
the last part of you
I can see."

College is doing you right! haha! Love it, Erin!

I will definitely come back and savor this some more later, I'm positive. Just winging myself out the door now, though.

Also, this is a side conversation, but, Homey - you are so particularly talented at responding. I could almost picture you being a college professor in some distant future, sitting on your desk and teaching an English course or a literary criticism class.

Oh, thank you! What a lovely comment to get! You made me smile, as always. I actually have never thought that I'm very good at critiquing--it's hard to put feelings into the right words. LOL! So that's really nice to hear.

I love your images, and the emotions they convey. And "starburst pink" made me smile. : )

Exquisite!

Exquisite imagery in this Erin! I agree that the words "starburst pink" is what really caught my attention. I also felt so much by reading the last stanza. You captured the pain of someone leaving and trying to hold onto that person any way you can very well. Fantastic as usual :)

So gorgeous in its beauty of imagery...I don't have time to comment much, but oh Erin, reading your poetry...its getting lovelier and lovelier overtime!
May I also second Sarah Bethany's image of Homey being a professor critiquing work?! I have had that exact thought as well...Prof. Homey! Haha

I can't believe I didn't

I can't believe I didn't comment on this.
But I did read it when you posted it.
It just seems like it came from a book. Every stanza has something I love. bending, warping, olive green, starburst pink, rut from the tire, erasing the last part of you I can see...
You really painted a vivid picture of missing someone.
