Swingsets and Fakers

A Poem By Erin // 4/13/2014

I. Swingset
Quiet, hush
Don’t say a word
Breathe, push
Bring me a little closer
Swing, rush
Upward toes to the sky
Euphoria in my veins
Staccato creak of the swingset chains
Just enough childhood
To bring a smile to my face.

II. One Step at a Time
I’m releasing the little bits of myself
still attached to you
I’ve been like a willow tree
quiet and unassuming
leaning deep over the grass
but now
I will emerge.

III. Fakers I
All the boys
Are the same in this town
Broad shouldered “country boys”
Cowboy boots lifted trucks
Chew tobacco drink bud light
Because that’s what real men do.

IV. Fakers II
All the girls
Are the same in this town
Messy buns clean mudboots
Booty shorts iPhone 5
Claim “I’m a country girl”.

V. Morning
Sometimes when I wake up
I watch the sunshine on my skin
For a second
Try to grasp it, feel it in my fingers
Imagine that it cleanses me.

These are cute :)

Glad you posted, Erin!

The imagery of Swingset is lovely. One Step at a Time is has a nice flow.
I loved Fakers, one and two! Hehe, I love messy buns :)
And Morning was so sweet and simple and cute.

Okay, may I just say that you've had a lot of poems that I adore, and these are a few more to add to my long list of "AWESOME ERIN POETRY!".
Love these, they are so beautifully worded, the rhythm was wonderful and the imagery was fabulous!
-Swingset gave me chills, it was as if I could feel myself swinging! I love the feeling of swinging, and this brought back the feeling all at once. Euphoria in my veins/Staccato creak of the swingset chains best worded lines EVER! I think my favorite lines in this whole compilation!
-One Step At A Time lowered me off the swing and sent me into a deep part of my heart where I could feel the dull ache of the poem and the growing victory at the end. I could relate to this and I feel close to the poem... very well worded!
-Fakers I was harder to read for me, but I liked it! It's very well done! I could see the "Country boys" clearly.
-Fakers II well done, like the first it was well worded and I could see the "Country Girls" in my mind.
-Morning was breathtakingly gorgeous, made me smile and sigh, as if enjoying a beautiful morning (even though it's a chilly grey afternoon :P). Very well worded! Loved!!!
Great, great poems! Love them all!!!

This imagery has stayed in my mind since I read it! Especially Fakers I and II... I saw that so vividly. It's such a perfect description - I feel like I could have walked through your town! And "clean mudboots" was the best - made me laugh :D

Finally commenting...

Swingset is one of the best recent poems by you I've read. I could hear it and see it, and it brought a smile to MY face.
