Homeschoolers and Such (Jumbled Thoughts of HomeschoolGirl)
I've been in public school, charter school, online school, and let me tell you--there is NOTHING like homeschooling. The freedom of learning is a feeling so unlike everything else. I've written essays about homeschoolers in the past, but this one is more of my own thoughts. No 'facts' or anything of the sort. And spelling errors, it won't always be grammatically correct...so read on! Because I don't proof read. (as my bio says).
Public schools use the same program for everyone. There's your number one problem. I like to look at it this way: every person in the world is different at how he or she learns and what they like to learn. Some children may do their best hands-on, others with books, others by listening to someone talk. Public school hands the all the children the same lesson and basically says, "Deal with it, or else."
Homeschooling, or unschooling, allows a child the complete freedom (if their parent wishes) of choosing what they want to learn, learning it at their own place, and learning from life skills. I think unschooling is a GREAT choice for any family, if the child wants, seeing as how the child basically learns what they want to and from life in general. If they want to cook...they're going to march right into the kitchen and keep trying until they're satisfied. I think that's awesome. The child values what they're learning, that way, and will work hard towards it.
Another new thing in public school: homework DURING lunch. And they say homeschoolers aren't social! In public school, the children seem almost completely banned of talking. Friends....might as well be thrown out the door.
