How Come You Didn't Tell? / Withdraw / Horizon / Breakfast

A Poem By Madeline // 3/15/2015

How Come You Didn't Tell?

It was a letdown
Of my shoulders
Of my body
A hiss of air
Out my hope
Palpable
To everyone's ears
Untainted opinion
Notwithstanding
I had hoped much more for you
I had hoped my
Snub-nosed declaration would
Absolve
And yet here we are
With you not knowing
That I know
What you know
And oh
I'm sitting there with my eyes
Shoving out their sorrows
Blinking them away
Inclining my head
And wishing
That I didn't know
But the oddest thing is that you're
Still the same
As yesterday
But I've felt the pulling
Felt us come unchained
I remember back to when I
Felt older in addition
To being
Now you've gone and done something
I hope to never
And I'm two steps down
Worse for the realizing
Because you've been standing alongside me
While my mouth forms the words
To release the floodgates
But you dammed them back up
Right in my face
As we were standing there
In the kitchen
Like so many times past
It's just that
Now I know it
And it's not that I no longer love you
I do
So much
But I feel like it's
Cauterized
The fact
That we're no longer
Close
I was misplaced in believing
You'd still say things
Like you used to

Withdraw

I learn when to sacrifice
My opinion
To the greater good
Ignoring the swirls of
Opposition
I'm ready to intervene
Need I should

Horizon

Miles above the rest of the world it seems
Looking down
This place propels me into being brazen
It makes me want crazy things
That I only mean
For that moment
But I'm high on life
Feeling this breeze
The sunshine touching
The palm of the world
Offering its
Shimmering gold
To me
And what a place this is to be

Breakfast

Irrationally indignant at the turn this takes
Directed protectively toward me
I say it's not of interest and
I say it with my might
That I find
In my blood
Turned to steel
And resolve
I hold on
Won't release
Rigid mind
And body
Set on being
A martyr
To love
So stoically
Only later do I wish
I had
Opened
The chance
Up

These feel very personal, and the energy is clear. The wording was perfect and they were put together masterfully. Hope you're okay.

These are so powerful. "I'm sitting there with my eyes/Shoving out their sorrows/Blinking them away" great image. Horizon was also lovely.

everything was better when/you would call and I'd be like/yeah babe, no way

Deep feeling

I love how you used the word 'cauterized'. 'Come unchained' was painful, and 'snub-nosed declaration' - that phrase made me squawk with adoration of it. :D I could just feel myself standing in the kitchen, the air coming out of me, too. Very atmospheric, without needing to know the relationship between the two people.

:)

I am so late in commenting!! Sorry!
I absolutely love LOVE the first one. It's just...so potent? I think potent is the word I was looking for.
"Shimmering gold" in Horizon, I like that.
And Breakfast was powerful word choice. These are some of your most personal, thanks for sharing!

Goodbye? Oh no, please. Can’t we just go back to page one and start all over again?” – Winnie The Pooh
