An Alarming Amount of Poetry (Part the Third)

A Poem By Madeline // 8/16/2013

If Only

I find myself carried away by his voice
The desperation beneath the words
This is music
This is what I wish I could write

Parade

I think I'd love you if you'd sing me a parade
and march gladly in my name
blare our trumpets without shame
and prove that this thing between us
is more than child's play

Flinch

You know what?
I'm ready
I'm ready for this
I'm ready for you to be
Unflinchingly honest

I'm Different

I was thinking yesterday
About how maybe I could be the different one
I know the rest feel the same
But I can't picture any of them
With you
Like I so easily do myself
So what then?
I ask
Can I be different?

Dumbed Down

Do not dumb me down
The way you always do
This time I am serious
I'll not bow down to you
Now he is meaning everything
And I love you, you ask why
Why could I do such an awful thing
Find another guy?
This time don't make me stupid
I'm serious, you see
I'm tired of being made small
Now who's the dumb one, sweetie?

Tease

I love the scarf in your hair
I can just imagine
Reaching up
To pull it out

He's Everest

The fear is underlying
But it's there
That I'm not enough for you
Not tall enough
Or short
Not thin enough
Or curvy
Not complicated
Simple
Funny
Serious
Beautiful
Plain
I'm afraid I underlie
Every crest
I'm afraid of
Your definition
Of the peak
The mountain is bigger than I am or ever will be
Still yet, I stand, motionless
I let it climb me

Perhaps

Occasionally I'll stop and think
About how I like what I see
And perhaps he
Will too

Give Me Time

I think if asked to
I would be good at
Waiting

Open Guitar Case

Compulsively I have to see
If you've added anything new
You're funny
You make me laugh
I like that best about you
Now I'm thinking about believing
In myself making you laugh, too
I only need to catch a break
I'm almost like
An underpaid musician
In desperate need of a mic so her music
Can be heard by more people
And yet I'd be okay if
The only one to ever hear me sing this song
Was you

It's Not Settling

This is getting abnormal
This is getting insane
I would settle for being friends if it meant
I meant anything to you
But, Dear God, just please
I need a chance
To stand face-to-face
I want you to learn my smile

I Couldn't Care Less

I adore the way you sing that song
I adore the way your eyes glaze as if you're there
Singing it to that person
Whoever she
Or he
Is

You're Beautiful

I don't know if you know how special you are
Most people seem not to
But I do
Yes, I do
And it's a curse, sometimes
Sometimes I wish I didn't
Didn't because it aches that you don't
Don't think I'm special too
Maybe you would if you saw me
Or maybe you wouldn't
Who I am to assume
Anything

How Dare You

Oh my God this is crazy
Crazy crazy crazy
But I can't seem to stop
I want to stop, I want to
But you're bringing tears to my eyes
You're an absolute fool
You can look horribly stupid
You make faces and do awful dances
Which is why I let myself think I have a chance
Why don't you seem untouchable like everyone else?
Cool, calm, collected, perfect
Together
I think you would love me
How dare you let me think that

Another

I can read your face now
How scary is that
All my thoughts are running together
No longer isolated
I don't know what happened today
But now I can't go back
I feel it
I've crossed over
And I'm your goner

Comments

Nooo, don't stop. I like

Nooo, don't stop. I like seeing you post so much! My favorite was still the last one that you posted, but I like these a lot, too.

"I don't know if you know how special you are
Most people seem not to
But I do
Yes, I do." yessss

I REALLY related to It's Not Settling, especially this part:
"I would settle for being friends if it meant
I meant anything to you." which is basically my life.

I also really liked and related to If Only, Perhaps and I Couldn't Care Less. :D keep posting!!!!!!!

An Alarming Amount of Comment (part the third)

Loved the end of If Only, when it says
"This is music
This is what I wish I could write"

He's Everest was so just yes. That feeling of not ever being right enough, good enough, perfect. And it hurts, but you can't even try to change, and if you do you lose a bit of yourself and you're still not good enough. And you said it all so perfectly.

Open Guitar Case was particularly sweet.

How Dare You made me feel very emotional.
"I think you would love me
How dare you let me think that "
*teary eyes*

And last among the favorites, Another was very relatable to, especially the part about crossing over something, and not being able to turn back.

Lovely poems, of course, and please don't stop posting!

The most astonishing thing about miracles is that they happen.
-G. K. Chesterton

Don't you dare stop, missy.

:D I am so enjoying this.

I'm Different: Has a special feel to it.
Dumbed Down: I like what you did. And yeah, either I am in a very silly mood, or it is funny to everyone else...I laughed.
Tease: Lovely. But, who wears scarves in their hair?
He's Everest made my heart break all over again.
Open Guitar Case: LOVE!! Love, love love! Can stress HOW much I love this. I don't know, it was just so perfect, and I related so much, and....Arhhh!
It's Not Settling: Pretty good. Relatable for everyone, since they've either been there, going through it, or it's in store for them...nice job.
I Couldn't Care Less: Perfect. My guitar teacher is like that. But hey, I can't help but notice....like, are you a BIG 1Direction fan? :)
You're Beautiful: Oh my gosh, I like this alot.
How Dare You: Love. Rhythm's perfect, feeling's perfect. Nice job. (not criticising you, but just so everyone knows, I'm not a big fan of using God's name in vain. )
Another: This is good.

Okay, I think I am very bad at describing my love for poems. Sorry for redundancy. :P

Keep writing, Homey!

Wow, guys. Thank you SO MUCH.

Wow, guys. Thank you SO MUCH. I'm so encouraged by this!

Erin--Thank you, thank you, thank you. For reading, commenting, and generally being super awesome like you are.

little woman--Just thank you. Seriously. It means a lot--especially since you said one poem made you emotional. I really want that (in a good way), and it means a lot that at least one of these was able to do that. So thank you.

Maddi--AHHHHHH. HOW DID YOU KNOW?! You need to be, like, a detective or something. :P Do you like them? haha. Anyway....back to the comment....thank you so much! For all three of your comments on these posts. I read them all. I so, so appreciate it when people comment and let me know what they thought. It's so kind of you to take the time and do that. And I'm so, so glad to have you back!

Thanks, guys!
