tripping

A Poem By Madeline // 11/8/2012

my suitcase was in my hand
the day I left and I
was in such a hurry that
my feet fell over themselves twice
and I closed my eyes
and imagined you were with me
even though
you were what I was running from

isn't it strange
I thought on the plane
how often we hold onto
long-gone, loveless things
and fill the spaces with stiff conversations
and chaste embraces
and listen to lame excuses
even if they're without a shred of truth

but I held a biased ear
and a broad stance
that kept me from seeing
and distance is so peaceful
both lonely and crowded
when the one who has shrouded
your voice is you

when I got off
tripping again and again
I found myself once more
struggling to pretend
that you were behind me
a ghost of love gone wrong
prolonged incessantly
but deluded, reshaped and
taped into something tangible

and I tried to, really
I felt in myself a familiar feeling
but you can't fool yourself forever
be it days, months, years
your fears will make themselves known
and that's when you know you've grown
when you can accept them
within and maybe
it'll be enough to begin
anew and maybe
if you're brave
you won't find yourself tucked,
stuck in an airport with thousands
who are going and gone
before you have time to
regain your balance
it's such a challenge

it's such a challenge.

Like the repeat of the last line!

And my favorite lines were,

"but you can't fool yourself forever
be it days, months, years
your fears will make themselves known
and that's when you know you've grown
when you can accept them"

Awesome. :)

Oh, I like this a lot. It's sad. And I like how you repeat the last line.
