A Poem By Kathleen // 9/16/2013

I think I will be a young maid
for many a year
but if ever an old maid I should be
I think I’d like a garden
where books grew off
to keep me company.

And I would reach
to pluck a ripe and brooding Bronte
that would grow on such
a tree.

And from whence would come
these literary trees?
Why, from Dickens, Bronte, and
Tolstoy seeds.

And I would picnic in this garden
and only eat a slice
of lemon pie.
And to whom would I read
if no kith or kin had I?
Why, I would read
to the flowers of the field,
the birds of the sky.

Great poem!

The rhythm is great, and I particularly like the theme. I like that you brought up Bronte, but I don't know which Bronte you meant - I love Jane Eyre, but not Wuthering Heights. As for Dickens, I'm going to be reading through his stuff pretty soon. I think this is my most favorite of your writings!

I agree with all the other

I agree with all the other three. Fantastic wording that puts you in those time periods...lovely imagery. Great job.

Sweet! :)

Such a nice change to read!
"And I would picnic in this garden
and only eat a slice
of lemon pie."
I really liked that bit; great job!

Goodbye? Oh no, please. Can’t we just go back to page one and start all over again?” – Winnie The Pooh

@ Lucy Anne: I guess I'm one

@ Lucy Anne: I guess I'm one of those strange people who happens to like both Charlotte and Emily Bronte.
Thanks so much for all your comments! It means a lot to me.

So lovely

Oh--this was fun to read. A very sweet piece of work. And the Bronte I love them.
What a great little piece of writing!
