Closer: Canto XVI Sequel Hooks

A Poem By Julie // 8/6/2011

Canto XVI: Sequel Hooks
Things never
really end
point blank
There’s always
a leftover strand
or two

She had
clothing for
Bailey
and—
“Glasses cleaner!”
Bailey grinned
“Thank you,
um—“

“Desta,”
She extended
a hand
“And you have
met my brother,
Bailey!”

“Your brother?”
I asked

“Arkn!”

“Really?
He’d better
be here
He said
He’d explain”

“Well, now that
you have my
‘number’
I’d better jump
when you say jump
or you’ll come
hunt me down,”

We turned and saw
--“Arnold?
Arnold Knutson?”

“I was wondering how long
it would take you
to figure it out
I even used
my own name
well,
I added some.”

“What, you were
undercover with her
and you never told me?”

“I wanted it
to be a surprise—
and your face”
He chuckled
“That was worth
everything

Bailey began
cleaning her glasses
“What about
that thing
Tova said.
She asked
if we were
‘moons’”

“People in stories
do exist independently
of their writers—
well, somewhat
Especially in stories
where there’s a
defined Creator.
an aspect, an element
of God
that’s the sun
but then you
as subcreator
are the moon”

“Reflecting light
into the night
cool!”

“Now what?”
I asked

“Now?—“
Bailey grinned
“Now
anything
Now
everything!”

I love the illustration about

I love the illustration about the Son and the moon. :) LOVE.

But let's rewind a moment. Who is Arkn again? He has a sister? He's a normal person? But he's not. And he's the one who showed Bailey all about, well, things. So... who is he really?

I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right. --The Book Thief

Mmm

Ah, he hasn't told me yet. And Desta didn't tell me who she was until this canto either. So, yes, he's a mystery

Is it over then? For a while?

Is it over then? For a while? Is there more? There had better be...
