Collecting Hearts

A Poem By Emilee // 5/13/2012

I would love to hear your thoughts/advice!

Collecting Hearts

You ran here and there
Probably most everywhere
With your calculating cool
Your Jar of Hearts was almost full

You smiled once, maybe twice
No one did it ere grace thrice
Never breaking your one rule
Your Jar of Hearts was almost full

You always claimed to care
But never did you truly dare
You were taught that in school
Your Jar of Hearts was almost full

One by one you found your prey
Moving on day after day
Many people did you find to fool
Your Jar of Hearts was almost full

You would pluck the hearts
With a perfected art
Until than they could be so drool
But Your Jar of Hearts was almost full

The Jar clamored for one more entry
You chose me incidentally
You thought I was your one last fool
Your jar of hearts was almost full

You chose for me your cliché lines
But to me they tasted just like brine
You struggled to keep control
Your jar of hearts was almost full

I had been told about your kind
By those few whom I try to mind
I would not break my one rule
Your Jar of Hearts was almost full

You smiled once, you smiled twice
And me it finally did grace thrice
I thought you had broken your rule
Your Jar of Hearts was almost full

To say I broke would be a lie
At its remembrance I still cry
And I remember with every knoll
How your Jar of Hearts was almost full

I trusted thee who stole my heart
It was my most important part
At least you could not steal my soul
Your Jar of Hearts was almost full

“My heart is gone” I moan
There is little to do but groan
My heart has filled the one last crack
Your Jar of Hearts is full, at last.
