She Held Out Her Heart

A Poem By Libby // 10/15/2017

She held out her heart
Without hesitation
And lifted it up,
A grand presentation.

I took it from her
I took it so gently
That sweet little gift
To guard it intently.

So pure and so fresh,
I watched it maturing;
The older she grew
Her sweet heart ensuring.

And then came the day
Its sweetness was tainted;
The day that I felt
We were not acquainted.

So mild the change,
I sensed it directly;
Her manner was cold,
I thought so abjectly.

So grave was her poise,
Did she understand?
The day that she took it—
Her heart from my hand.

I grieved for the loss
That caused me such pain
Would I ever know
Would she love me again?

For time and again
She has let me hold it
Yet always it is
Only with her permit.

She takes it once more
No longer belonging,
Belonging to me;
For it I am longing.

I’m longing for days
The days that you loved me
The days we were friends
When we were so carefree.

You’ve taken your heart,
It’s yours now, forever,
No, I cannot change that
Despite my endeavor.

My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

P.S. You pretty much had me

P.S. You pretty much had me crying. <3 thank you so much for your sweet email and poem. It meant the world to me. Wish I could give you a big hug right about now, sweet girl.

“The gospel alone is the power of God unto salvation.
Therefore, suffer, yes. Be misunderstood, yes. Be shamed, yes. But do not be ashamed. For the joy set before you, take up your cross, follow Jesus, be shamed and despise the shame!” -- John Piper
