There Have Been Those Days

A Poem By Libby // 1/18/2018

There have been those days
That fall apart,
When I cannot stand
On this land;
As I waver in my heart
Though afresh I start,
My life tastes bland,
Filled with ashen greys—
There have been those days.

There are also days
That never end
When ambitions seem
Just a dream.
For the avenues that wend
Through the hues that blend,
They hold no scheme,
Just an endless maze—
There have been those days.

But recall those days
I hold so dear
That were filled with light
Ever bright;
When desires kindled clear,
Not a trace of fear,
For all is right
Through this joyful phase—
There have been those days.

What about those days
When I was there
For a little while
With a smile;
When you needed me to bear
Every lofty care,
Through every trial
I was there always—
There have been those days.

For in all my days
That pass me by
There are moments vast
From the past
Every memory that I
Have now seem to fly
They never last
Just a shadow stays
Throughout all my days.

This is your best yet

You continue to amaze me with your art, dear!
This is my favorite verse:
But recall those days
I hold so dear
That were filled with light
Ever bright;
When desires kindled clear,
Not a trace of fear,
For all is right
Through this joyful phase—
There have been those days.

And I love how you switch it up with the very last line. Perfect.
I think this is the most relatable poem you've written. This is life, in a nutshell. There are always gonna be "those days" where it's so hard to understand what's going on, and why we have to live through these things, and then there comes a day where "all is right" and we bask in our "joyful phase".

So thank you. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece.

Brother: Your character should drive a motorcycle.
Me: He can't. He's in the wilderness.
Brother: Then make it a four-wheel-drive motorcycle!

Thank you both :)

“The gospel alone is the power of God unto salvation.
Therefore, suffer, yes. Be misunderstood, yes. Be shamed, yes. But do not be ashamed. For the joy set before you, take up your cross, follow Jesus, be shamed and despise the shame!" -- John Piper

So lovely and so true. I

So lovely and so true. I don't know why I particularly loved your lines 'my life tastes bland, filled with ashen greys'. It was delicious to read out loud!

When I worship, I would rather my heart be without words than my words be without heart.

Thank you so much; the ashen

Thank you so much; the ashen grey line is also my favorite and was most enjoyable to write.
