13 Discoveries I've Made Throughout 2012

An Essay By Lucy Anne // 1/19/2013

In a way, inspired by Maddi's 13 on 14...

1. I am not quite the same person I was last year, last month, or last week. I keep growing and learning.

2.I should really force myself to write faster. Because after a while, I lose enthusiasm, and it shows. Plus, when I take too long, usually I’ve grown so much in the ways I think and write that all I want to do is go back and edit. Which is sometimes good, and sometimes bad.

3. I’d better begin my day with devotions with God because it is a blessing and besides, if I don’t, I will become easily irritated and become weak in spirit.

4. I now realize that every time a new baby joins my family, we will always be changed in just so many ways.

5. When I was little, I always dreaded the sight of that navy blue bible-thick Jacob’s Algebra book. It had looked just so complex with all those foreign alphabet letters but now as I am learning Algebra, it’s actually very easy and not something to dread.

6. My parents made some decisions this year that I admit that I did not exactly agree with their decisions at that time, but now, as I look back at this year’s events, their decisions have definitely ended up blessing me. Parents know best!

7. Always consider readers of all different views/opinions when writing.

8. God works in miraculous ways. For me, He’s worked in my heart and taught me how to forgive and – love. I guess you can say that perfect love covers all hatred.

9. Yay for poetry! It is definitely not dull as I deemed it before reading ApricotPie’s poetry.

10. Baptism is the best thing I’ve ever experienced. I am pure! I am forgiven! I believe! I bear fruit; I am growing!

11. Refraining from emailing is actually better than treating email as if it was a Facebook and it’s actually best (for me) to use email sparingly. But I assure you I didn’t think this in the beginning and was very unhappy that I wasn’t allowed email very much.

12. Even if my friend and I are hundreds of miles away from each other, when we pray for each other, we can just know that we are…because God is present in our lives.

13. Never write something onto Microsoft Word without clicking ‘save’ every five minutes. Or else…

Bonus One*

14. Don’t say,” I’m going to ______ on Tuesday” without considering that I do not control my life; God controls my life because many, many times this year, I’ve had huge disappointments. Now, because of these, I try to remember to say, “I’m going to____ next Tuesday, if it is God’s will.” Only He knows!

Comments

Haha....

Well....ALOT has changed for me since I wrote that, so....I agree heaps with number 1. ALOT in only a few months. Anyway. Movin' on.

2: Man oh man does that happen to me.

3: Yep. It works, even if you read a scripture a day, it will make you strong. Not advising that, though. I do mine at night, personally, cos of time.

4: ?

5: Hey, I'm not little....and I don't like and dread Algebra.

6: Parents know best. Agreed. But sometimes, you will feel they don't understand. Sometimes they don't, but just pray, and God will see you through whatever you're facing. :)

7: Good idea.

8: Amen, amen!

10: Hallelujah! Feel like that every day.

11: haha. Emails, for me is half my social life, cos of where I live and no friends. But trust your parents. I don't have Facebook cos 1: I probs wouldn't be allowed; dunno for sure, cos I haven't asked. 2: I know that if I was on, I would get addicted. Bad.

12: Always. I'm praying for you, girlie.

13: I've learnt that lesson.

14: Happy belated birthday!

Sorry for the long comment.

Could you explain point 7 a

Could you explain point 7 a little?

"My greatest wish for my writing is that it would point you to the Savior."

:)

Maddi -- I LOVE long comments. It's neat that you can identify with me with so many of the lists!

Arthur -- About 7. I used to write with a very opinionated mind (I still do but I'm still training myself to do the opposite) but in July, I attended a summer writing camp taught by a homeschool graduate and friend of mine and we had to write a persuasive essay on something like, Why Should We Write. Well, now I see that I wrote it very insensitively to others who do not have the same opinion to me. Of course, I think it wasn't wrong that I had the opinion that I had, but the way I said it was wrong (Got a B+ by the way). My teacher kindly explained why I shouldn't write like that and if I was going to say something, I should also give an explanation on why I said it.

So now, I try to write and consider other readers that don't know Jesus or love books that I despise and if I am going to make a strong statement, I will try to explain my opinion. Does that answer your question?

About the sovereignty of the Lord, are you wondering if I believe that God is sovereign? I think that God knows what is going to happen and controls my life but we have free will to do whatever we want to do whether it is sin or not.

Did you just turn 16 on the 17th? I noticed that your age changed on either the 15th-17th. Happy (late) birthday then!

   Yes, you explained it

Yes, you explained it well, and I do agree with you on this point then. :)

I'm just wondering if you believe if God is all-powerful, meaning that he has the power to do anything.

If you really want to know, my birthday was on the 17th.

Agreed with #13. It ALLWAYS

Agreed with #13. It ALLWAYS happened to me before I realized that I could do it like two years ago. But it still happens... sometimes. :)
