River Rat

A poem by Christa | 10/5/2007

Gentle lapping water
River air. A flash of a fish
The call of geese
Paddle, paddle, splish, splash
I feel like I’m
In the middle of the sea
All of life is good
Happy and free

A fuzzy sound ahead
Getting louder and louder
Not a train coming
There! A ledge of water

Ready the paddles!
Steady your seat!
Avoid the rocks!
And here we go! Wheeeeeeeee!

Adrenaline pumping,
Hair now soaking
Muscles trembling
Ah, but wasn’t
The river fun today?
