Listen to the Wind | 6/20/2008 Age: 19 Status: Homeschool Graduate Favorite word(s): Indubitably Bio: Who am I? Well, my name is Raine. I'm 18 years old and homeschooled! Unschooled, would probably be a better word. I'm an autodidact. I love to read, always have, always will. I'm a devoted bookworm! I love books. I devoured the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series when I was younger. Every single one. I love H.G. Wells, Isaac Asimov, Arthur Conan Doyle and Jane Austen. I enjoy Louisa May Alcott, L.M. Montgomery and Margaret Peterson Haddix. Chaim Potok, Brian Jacques, Louis L'Amour and Victoria Hanley. I could talk about books forever. I've read almost anything I could get my hands on. I'm kind of quiet, sometimes and a little bit shy. But once I get to know you I'm goofy and outgoing. I sing when I feel like it, anywhere, anytime. I love singing. I've taken lessons for almost eight years. I love singing, and I hope to continue learning to control and use my voice. I dance when there is no music...just because I can. I love to dance--especially by myself in my living room. I'm not very good at dancing yet. I like to practice by myself. I love to laugh and smile. I tend to be pretty optimistic in any situation. Life is beautiful, so what's the use of frowning? I love to play...I love being a child. I'm a country girl...born and raised in the country, here in Alberta, Canada. Lovely place to live. The wind blows almost constantly. I love it. One of my good friends calls me 'Bird', which comes from an old childhood nickname. I like to think of myself as having a few birdlike qualities. Like the ability to fly, to soar to never before seen heights in all areas of my life. The ability--the gift--to sing. And of course my love of early mornings. I love to dream....I am someone who is working to better herself. I am sentimental and a romantic at heart. People are my life! I'm the oldest of six children. I love being a big sister. Families are wonderful, and mine is especially so. My siblings are wonderful, with their own incredible strengths. They are always there for me no matter what. Even the brother who hates hugs is there when I need one. I'm other things too, besides a sister. I'm a writer. I love poetry! Emily Dickinson is my favorite poet. I was inspired to start writing at a very early age. This inspiration came from authors such as C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and O.R. Melling. I enjoy writing poetry, essays, short fiction and many other things. Writing is something that I love...always have and always will. There's something wonderful about words, something special. There's something magical about taking out a fresh, bright sheet of paper. The pages of a notebook are so white...so inviting. They're just waiting for thoughts to be pressed upon them! Waiting for inky words to dance across the page. Those words contain so much power, they can convey so many different things! I love it. It's not always easy...sometimes its quite hard. Words don't always come as quickly as I should like. But writing is wonderful! And I guess, for now, that's about all that needs to be said. |
