Seven Fragments

A Poem By Raine // 2/25/2014

it wasn't long--
maybe five or ten
before the words
tumbling in my head
started trickling out

little pieces of
the weather,
the pulsing
in my aching feet
a trickle of something
that fragmented against
my teeth

1. Feet

Feet that move
down the path
do not think
daily about the
purpose of their
until the day ends
and the tapping
of busy steps

2. Winter Walk

one snow day
two friends
a winter wander
that seems endless

3. Cold

frozen breath of winter
ice cold fingers touching
remnants of summer
that crackle and shrink
in the wind that leaves
this frigid beast behind
to linger a little longer

white fields flashing
as cars slide forward
snow drifted fences
slipping past my window
sun dancing on
frozen earth

5. Before Dawn

early morning wind
presses the snow against
the window
and the darkest part of
night leaks out of the sky

6. An Empty Mind

those thoughts like clouds
move quickly across this expanse
in my mind
and the wisps trailing after
are fragmented by
my sunlit eyes

7. Tomorrow

the shadows that
follow me around
are friendly
they slip in and out of focus
and in the last minute
of each day
they promise to
return tomorrow

I especially like "Before

I especially like "Before Dawn" and totally relate to "An Empty Mind." At first I thought "a winter wander" was a typo, then smiled at the image. I really like the imagery you use in these, and in describing them as scattered "tiny fragments of poetry" from a "book made of glass."

I loved all of these-they were brief but effective. I especially liked Before Dawn.

Goodbye? Oh no, please. Can’t we just go back to page one and start all over again?” – Winnie The Pooh

"ice cold fingers touching
remnants of summer" was probably my all time favorite line! Fabulous!!! These are breath taking little snippets, wonderful!
