Shadow Swap

A Poem By Raine // 10/9/2012

If one day you chance
to slip
fall to the ground
into your own shadow--
stay there a minute
one conversation,
a moment or two
strike a deal and
swap for the day

one shadow above
one you below
trailing along
the shadow you've
never known

sliding across
dewy grass
bumping up the
library steps
the perspective change
of sideways glancing
upward staring
spins your head
but the view from here
leaves bits of
newness
clinging to your fingers

For a minute I thought: Bumping up the steps? How can you bump up the steps? Usually people bump down the steps. The I realised that you were still talking about your shadow. Awesome.
