My random thoughts in random order, basically.

Chapstick, Chapped lips, and things like Chemistry

An essay by Tamerah | 5/6/2008

Today Spring seems to finally be on its way, though I’m not going to hold my breath since the last time we were promised Spring we were delivered snow instead. Of course with Spring comes the irresistible urge to pick the flowers that have worked so hard to grow and bloom after the cold weather, which I can’t help but feel a little guilty about. So today instead of picking the flowers I got out my camera and took pictures of them, with some very pretty results if I don’t say so myself (which I do). Pictures seem the obvious choice when wanting to capture the way something looks forever, which I find myself wanting to do often. This year we have a particularly tall patch of forget-me-nots in our yard which I am really proud of even though I have had nothing to do with its success, and though I don’t have a picture of it yet I plan on getting one or two.
When life gives you lemons you make lemonade right? But what if life gives you chapstick? You send it through the washing machine of course! Okay, so that didn’t make any sense at all, not even to me. But still that seems to be what I do with my chapstick (not that life is giving me chapstick, I have to go to the store and buy it just like any normal person). I carry it around in the pocket of my jacket and then when the jacket goes through the wash so does the chapstick. You’d think by the fifth or sixth time of this happening I’d learn my lesson to check my pockets before putting my jacket in the washer, but so far my lesson remains unlearned and my chapstick is being sent through the wash on a weekly basis. But hey, at least it’s clean, when it doesn’t come out ruined that is, but then I suppose you could still consider it clean even if it is a bit mushy. I have one chapstick that has gone through the wash at least five times and amazingly isn’t the worse for wear, aside from maybe being a little moister than it originally started out.
It’s interesting how something you never took notice of can make such a difference when it’s gone. This weekend I was walking outside and found that one of my favorite bushes had been cruelly uprooted, and when I demanded an explanation I was told simply that it was in the way of something else. Apparently this other thing needed to be there more than the bush that had stood in its place behind the pump-house for as long as I could remember. I don’t know what kind of bush it was, all I know about it is that my Dad won it in some bowling tournament a long time ago (although I’ve no idea what bushes have to do with bowling). When coming inside to inform everyone of this tragic news I expressed my grief on behalf of the bush and said “I used to make soup with its leaves.” Of course what I meant by this was when I was little I would play outside and make ‘food’ out of random foliage and that bush’s leaves were one of my preferred choices. As of right now I don’t know if my Dad intends to replant the bush or even if replanting it would do any good, all I know is that I’ll miss it if I don’t see it again, even though to most people it’s just a bush and I didn’t even notice it until it was gone.
I thought I should say this sort of meandering of my thoughts began sometime in the afternoon while I sat on the porch with my laptop and my two sisters fiddled with their guitars behind me. I had my whole front yard for inspiration, which is naturally why I began this post with the thought of Spring, since I had full view of several different species of flowers and two hummingbirds where buzzing around somewhere close, flitting in and out of my sight. Now it’s late at night while I finish off my ramblings and I’m feeling much less inspired. However, only moments ago a helicopter flew overhead, making a very loud noise (or at least it sounded loud in the middle of the night when everything else is quiet) and lingered longer than I thought normal. You know you have seen too many end of the world alien movies when in the dead of night you hear a helicopter and think unaccountably of alien abductions.
Okay, so I think I had better bring this random-typing-of-my-thoughts to a close before you get bored reading it, if you’re even still there.
Good news: I have kept my pet fish alive for more than a month.
Bad news: The new Prince Caspian movie is going to be terrible.

(Oh and I suppose I had better give credit to Relient K for the title of this post, since it is originally a title of one of their very amazing songs.)

*UPDATE: My Dad has replanted the bowling bush in our backyard, lets hope it lives!

that was fun :]

Instead of helicopters where I live we have trains.

Congrats on your bush, forget-me-nots, and fish! Is it a goldfish or a catfish or a beta or something else?

Why is PC going to be terrible? Besides the way all books are better than movie versions of that book.

-Anna (and a ps that may interest you is that I am planning on posting more of Stars Over Llorleya which used ot be The Stargazer. Soon. Next week, hopefully.)

=D
Tamerah | Tue, 05/06/2008 - 12:37pm

They're betas. I usually manage to kill them in the first two weeks but somehow they are still alive and I feel very accomplished!

WELL Prince Caspian is going to be terrible because they've made some sort of romance between Caspian and Susan, and I do not approve of it at all.

Yay! I was wondering when you were going to post more. I went over and read the first couple of chapters the other day =D

Anna | Tue, 05/06/2008 - 3:45pm

Betas, hmmm... I heard that if you have more than one they'll fight to the death or something.

Eww... romance? In Narnia? In general i adore romance but Susan and Caspian?yuck. You sure about that? Not to distrust your judgement, but is this a rumor you heard or an undeniable, incontestable fact?

i'm just waiting for my editor to approve the chapter. :)

Tamerah | Tue, 05/06/2008 - 4:01pm

Yeah, the male betas have to be in different tanks, I don't know about the female ones though.

And I'm pretty sure because I saw a trailer for the movie where Susan and Caspian kiss and I think that qualifies as romance.

Anna | Tue, 05/06/2008 - 4:59pm

yuck

Ezra | Tue, 05/06/2008 - 7:41pm

Yes, I saw that trailer too. Of all the dumb things to do, that has to be the worst.

.
Tamerah | Wed, 05/07/2008 - 1:22am

I am outraged. I take these things very seriously.

Anna | Wed, 05/07/2008 - 4:19pm

It's not even like there's a good reason. Susan forgets Narnia exists and Caspian marries Ramandu's daughter. Most kids watching won't like it, even the ones that haven't read the books.

(ps- my editor- when I use the word "editor" I mean my critiquer, previewer, and helper extraordinare- approved Chapter 12. I'm debating waiting till Monday to post it since I just posted Brey Part 1 yesterday.)

Tamerah | Wed, 05/07/2008 - 5:25pm

I would personally like to have it posted immediately but waiting till Monday is probably better since you just posted something.

Heather | Wed, 05/07/2008 - 8:42pm

A romance between Caspian and Susan? You've gotta be kidding me! That will really make my little sister gag (she's alrady having a hard time accepting a dark Caspian instead of a Caspian with gold curls). Oh, BTW, I liked your essay. I love the randomishness of things like that. I've never heard Relient K's song of the same title as your essay, but my two favorites of theirs are Sadie Hawkins Dance and High of 75.

Ya I know, hair color is so easy to get right and yet they still choose to mess that up too!

Relient K is awesome =D
The title of this post is the first song from their cd Two Left Don't Make a Right but Three Do.
I like so many of their songs, I So Hate Consequences, More Than Useless, Devastation and Reform, For the Moments I Feel Faint, and many many more =D

Anna | Thu, 05/08/2008 - 11:12am

Actually I've always pictured Caspian either with dark or reddish hair... golden curls was not on my list...

Never heard Relient K except Sadie Hawkins Dance. Ever heard Flyleaf?

Tamerah | Thu, 05/08/2008 - 2:39pm

I've always pictured him with straight blonde hair.

And I have but I don't really like them that much..

Heather | Thu, 05/08/2008 - 3:08pm

Ever heard of Stellar Kart? I listen to them a lot. They're kinda like Relient K, not the same sound but they can be funny.
That's the problem...I've never listened to the Two Lefts Don't Make a Right cd. Only Anatomy of the Tongue in Cheek and Mmhmm.

Tamerah | Thu, 05/08/2008 - 3:11pm

Ya I like Stellar Kart, I've got a couple of their cds.
Have you ever heard of Hawk Nelson? They're good, that is what the badge on my hand in my picture stands for =]

Anna | Thu, 05/08/2008 - 3:50pm

Too bad you don't like Flyleaf, it's like my favorite band... not that I have much exposure to different bands, as I'e never heard Stellar Kart or Hawk Nelson. But a lot of my friends like Hawk Nelson. Ever heard Eisley or BarlowGirl?

(ps- I'd appreciate itf you'd read Brey and comment.)

Tamerah | Thu, 05/08/2008 - 5:43pm

I've heard of BarlowGirl but I don't particularly like them either. I'm not a big fan of girl bands. Right now my two favorite bands are The Classic Crime and Anberlin, but I don't expect anyone on here to know them since they're not as well known as some of the others already mentioned.

(and I have read Brey, I just didn't comment, but I will since you want me to)

Anna | Fri, 05/09/2008 - 11:08am

I generally don't like girl bands, but BarlowGirl has some great lyrics and melodies so I like them. I also like Superchick... but only a little. I really like Eisley... but it's not very well known and the music is sort of unusual.

(oh... i like it when you comment. :])

Tamerah | Fri, 05/09/2008 - 3:13pm

I used to like Superchick, I have a couple of their cds even, but I kind of stopped liking them a while ago, I'm not really sure why.
I think if I had to like a girl band it would be BarlowGirl.

Heather | Fri, 05/09/2008 - 9:18pm

BarlowGirl rocks (no pun intended) :0)
They're like the only girl band I like, and the only female singers I like. I have this thing against breathy singers, which most of the girls out there tend to be. The only other female singers I like have to be from Casting Crowns.
I've heard of Anberlin, but never heard their music. And yes, I've heard Hawk Nelson. I thought their cd cover was funny (with the vine curling around the one guy's leg) and my brother likes them, but for some weird reason I didn't care for them.
Stellar Kart's new album Expect the Impossible is great, especially 'Innocent' and 'The Right One'.

Tamerah | Fri, 05/09/2008 - 10:43pm

I have that Stellar Kart cd, I bought it when I bought my new Hawk Nelson cd. I really like the last song, I think it's called Letters.

YOUR FIS?H IS STILL ALIVE! I'm shocked! :) j/k!
You amuse me, Tam!

Tamerah | Tue, 05/13/2008 - 2:52am

You have no idea how hard it is for me to keep my fish alive. They die in like two weeks. I'm an infamous villain in the fish world, they probably think I poison the water or something.

Anna | Tue, 05/13/2008 - 11:51am

lol... maybe the water IS poisoned. :) I wouldn't know as I have never had a fish. I did have gerbils once, though. Which both died within a week....

(I did post the next chapter just so you know)

Emily | Tue, 05/13/2008 - 3:29pm

I had a fish that one of my friends gave me when I was little when they moved and the water would get so green you couldn't even see the poor fish. It died about a year after my friend moved. It was a hungry yet strong fish! :)

Anna | Sat, 05/17/2008 - 5:07pm

Interesting picture, Tamerah. Is that your fish that hasn't died? :)

PC update: My friend saw it and said the ending was terrible and she never saw it coming.

lol
Tamerah | Sat, 05/17/2008 - 5:50pm

Ya that is basically the only fish I can keep alive =D

I can't decide if I want to go see it or not, on one hand I want to know exactly how they messed up so I can complain about and know what I'm complaining about and on the other hand I would rather just not know anything about it.

Anna | Mon, 05/19/2008 - 3:35pm

I want to see it... but, as my other friend suggested, I'm going to see it purely as a movie, not as Prince Caspian.

My cousin also told me the ending was terrible.

Ezra | Tue, 05/20/2008 - 12:45pm

There are some good parts (you'll love the mice), but it is generally not very close to the book. And the ending is, as was suggested, bad.

Tamerah | Tue, 05/20/2008 - 3:09pm

Figures. I think I'll go see it with my sister because she really wants to see it. I'll just have to view it as nothing but a movie, wholly unconnected to the book, that way I may be able to enjoy it and not annoy everyone with my complaining.

Anna | Wed, 05/21/2008 - 1:31pm

As a movie, it was good.
As Prince Caspian, it could have been better.
But I know it also could have been worse.

The romance between Susan and Caspian was kept to a minimum. Happily. Still there, and still pointless, but that also could have been worse. The romance was not my main objection.
What I hated was how they had to condense it. Though I understand. The plotline of PC isn't very movie-adabtable. So they had to change it and take out a bunch of stuff.

But as a movie...
There were funny parts, sad parts, scary parts, moving parts. If you can see it purely as a movie and not get angry (I know some people can't), then you should see it. :)

...
Tamerah | Wed, 05/21/2008 - 2:41pm

I'm probably going to be the last person to see it, I'm always the last person to see new movies. But I will see it eventually I guess.
